Märta Blomstedt 'Aulanko' armchair
Hämeenlinna, Finland, 1940s
£19,500
A wonderful and iconic Aulanko lounge chair, designed by Märta Blomstedt in the 1940s for Hotel Aulanko in Hämeenlinna, Finland. This example has been reupholstered in soft Moonlight sheepskin, making it an incredibly comfortable chair to sink into and relax.
In Finland, the chair is affectionately known as “Laiskanlinna,” meaning “lazy castle” a name that perfectly captures its laid-back character. With its generous proportions and inviting shape, it’s just as suited to lounging as it is to sitting back and unwinding. A beautiful piece of Finnish design history that combines comfort, character, and timeless style.
Very good condition overall. Reupholstered in Moonlight sheepskin, with signs of wear to the wooden legs consistent with age and use.
