'Ceramic Set' by Jeanne and Norbert Pierlot
France, 1960s
£900
Jeanne (1917-1988) and Norbert Pierlot (1919-1979), a remarkable artistic duo, made an indelible impact on the world of ceramic art. Their collaborative journey began in the 1940s when they founded a workshop in Paris, creating everyday stoneware pieces distinguished by a simple white glaze. While Jeanne's designs showcased a commitment to simplicity and functionality, Norbert, originally a theater actor, seamlessly transitioned to pottery, playing a significant role in their shared artistic exploration. In 1948, Jeanne married Norbert, and in 1951, the couple decided to acquire the Château de Ratilly. This marked the inception of their life together and the establishment of a pottery haven where Jeanne's artistic vision thrived.
In good original condition with minor marks consistent with age and use. The plate is crafted by Roger Jacques.
