Märta Blomstedt 'Aulanko' armchair
Hämeenlinna, Finland, 1940s
£14,000
A wonderful and iconic "Aulanko" lounge chair, designed by Märta Blomstedt in the 1940s for Hotel Aulanko, Hämeenlinna, Finland. This example has been reupholstered in soft brown sheepskin, making it one of the most comfortable chairs you’ll ever sink into. Part of the reason for its growing demand in recent years is just how incredibly easy it is to sit, sleep, or lounge in. In Finland, it’s even nicknamed "Laiskanlinna," which translates to "lazy castle." A truly remarkable piece of history, design, comfort, and timeless style all in one.
Good vintage condition overall, reupholstered in brown sheepskin. The wooden legs show signs of wear consistent with age and use.
